Help sex crime victim, Shobha tells State govt
Bangalore Febraury 13 : In a letter to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Karandlaje asked the government to get the victim admitted to Nimhans immediately and foot her medical bills. “She is still unconscious and her condition is serious,” said Karandlaje in her letter. She criticised the government for remaining silent on the issue of women’s safety in the State.
Even though so many cases of sexual assault against women are being reported, the government has failed to initiate effective safety measures.
In the Assembly session that began on February 4, the issue of women’s security has not been raised till date, she pointed out.
“We need amendments to the provisions of the CrPC and IPC. The government has to furnish details on the number of rape cases reported in the State last year,” she said.
The former minister also sought that the government immediately raise the punishment in sexual assault cases apart from increasing vigilance in every district, by roping in district officials to initiate safety measures. (Courtesy : Deccan Herald)
